The Brief Story of
Nautika Foundation
Nautika Foundation (Yayasan Nautika Indonesia Prakasa) was established in Alor on 6 November 2023 as an Non-Governmental organization committed to strengthening coastal communities and promoting sustainable resource management. Rooted in the local context of Alor, a region rich in marine and cultural potential yet facing social, economic, and environmental challenges, the foundation adopts a community-based approach that emphasizes participation, local ownership, and long-term impact.
Nautika Foundation works to bridge communities with opportunities by supporting marine ecosystem conservation, inclusive economic empowerment, and environmentally responsible practices. Through collaboration with local communities, government institutions, academia, and other partners, the foundation aims to foster resilient livelihoods and ensure that development processes are equitable, context-driven, and sustainable for present and future generations.
A Message from Our Director
Alor is home to extraordinary oceans and resilient coastal communities rich in knowledge and tradition. Yet I have also witnessed firsthand how limited access, economic pressure, and environmental degradation can hold back the great potential of Alor’s people.
Nautika Foundation was born from the belief that conservation and community well-being cannot be separated. Healthy oceans require empowered communities, and empowered communities can only thrive when their environment is protected. From the very beginning, we chose a community-based approach, working alongside local people, not for them, but with them.
Through collaborative work in marine conservation, inclusive economic empowerment, and responsible resource management, we seek to open opportunities, strengthen local capacity, and build a more just and sustainable future for the people of Alor, today and for generations to come.
The journey ahead is long, but we believe that meaningful change always begins with small, consistent steps taken together.
